On 23 January, the school welcomed the journalist Alan Cochrane, the Scottish editor of The Daily Telegraph, as Friday lecturer. His talk was focused on politics, a topic on which he has reported for many years. He started by telling the girls some fascinating anecdotes about Margaret Thatcher, whom he had met on several occasions, and commenting on her policies, before going on to speak about the recent Scottish referendum, appropriate subject matter given that his recent book was entitled Alex Salmond: My Part In His Downfall. Cochrane’s talk had even the least politically active of the students hanging on his every word.
