Studio Production – Macbeth

September 27, 2016

For this year’s first Studio Production, VI Paulinas dove in with a classic: Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Carolyn Alam-Nist, director, writes ‘directing this production with an all-female cast offers a fascinating and complex exploration of both gender roles in Shakespeare’s time, and gender  expectations in the twenty-first century; what does it take for a man to be considered masculine, and does a woman need to cast aside her femininity to become powerful? However, I think the most interesting question this play poses is: can we ever really control our own destiny? Was Macbeth always destined to become a tyrant, or were the witches’ prophesies self-fulfilling?’
