Around 45 Paulinas in the UIV and five teachers spent the first week of the holidays in Italy visiting the classical sites around the Bay of Naples. Visiting the remains of Pompeii – twice because it’s such a big site – was certainly a highlight of the trip. They also enjoyed a visit to Herculaneum, which is a much smaller and better-preserved site. Their trip certainly wasn’t a lazy holiday; they spent a couple of days climbing Capri, which included hiking up to Tiberius’ villa, and climbing Vesuvius. The girls reported that Vesuvius was huge and very sinister, but once at the top, there was an uplifting view across the Bay of Naples that made all the climbing worth it.
