Beyond the Curriculum

The co–curricular programme is an integral part of every girl’s education at St Paul’s and an extraordinary array of clubs and opportunities are on offer. Below is just a selection of what is available. These change all the time and are often the result of student initiatives.

Trips

NYC Art Trip

Girls in the VIII spend a week exploring art, architecture & drama by seeing performances, exhibitions & other cultural landmarks.

Sport

Sports Trip

Teams travel to train and compete. Favourite trips include the Barbados Netball Tour and the rowing trip to Dorney Lake.

Clubs and Societies

Natural History Society

Senior girls share interests and organise activities for girls in all year groups. Practicals and “Attenborough Hour” are run biweekly.

Water Polo

The waterpolo club meets once a week to practise fundamental skills, such as treading water, passing, shooting and basic play.

Fencing

The club welcomes all those interested in learning the sport. Top fencers participate in competitions outside of school.

Not for the faint-hearted! Senior girls organise dissections and teach anatomy to girls in all year groups.

Rock Band

Rock Band is an opportunity for girls in the LV and V to receive coaching for their own music groups.

The team, selected by application, writes articles and helps produce the school newsletter and magazine.

The junior concert band allows girls of all ages and abilities to perform in Soirées and other events.

The society hosts external speakers and members of the senior school to talk about different topics beyond the curriculum.

String Circle

String Circle is an informal group in which girls play scales with one another.

Lacrosse

Lacrosse allows all girls to learn quickness, agility, speed, & strength & to play against local, national, & international squads.

Percussion Ensemble

The group is open to all players of both tuned and untuned percussion, and performs in Soirées and other events.

UIV Drama Club

This club builds on students’ experience of increasingly sophisticated theatre forms and drama devices, culminating in a performance.

Tennis

The teams compete in both friendly and competitive matches, including the AEGON schools tournament. All are encouraged to trial!

The MIV trip to Stubbers allow girls to bond in their new tutor groups while completing fun outdoor activities.

Gym Club

The gym club meets with an external coach to learn beginner gymnastics skills, such as vault and trampoline.

LAMDA

Delivered by professional theatre directors, LAMDA lessons help students to develop their self-confidence, performance skills, physical presence and speaking voice.

Highly Strung

Highly Strung is an entry-level strings group open to musicians of grades 1-5.

Geography Society

This provides an opportunity to explore geographical interests through lunchtime lectures, creative models, & challenging quizzes.

Equestrian Society

Girls participate in weekly rides in Hyde Park & learn horse husbandry in school. Each term culminates with gymkhana games.

Cover to Cover is a reading discussion group led by older girls for the younger avid readers of the school.

The Concert Band is the top wind, brass and percussion ensemble. The group performs at major concerts throughout the year.

The chapter puts on several events throughout the year, including the Amnesty Concert, a talent showcase for all students.

Professional playwrights from the National Theatre help students develop their own plays.

The Clarinet Ensemble is open to all girls grade 4 and above.

Open to all players of any level, the group performs at lunchtime Platform Concerts and other informal settings.

Theatre Society is an opportunity to experience interesting and innovative theatre, and discuss your experiences with other students and staff.

Three times per week, swimmers can perfect their stroke, improve their fitness, and practise starts and race dives.

SPEAC

SPEAC endeavours to raise awareness about our local environment including planting bee-friendly plants to designing a school water bottle.

The ski trip over the spring half-term is beloved by all girls in the V and LV who attend.

The Boat Club competes throughout England, culminating with National School’s Regatta and Women’s Henley Regatta.

Re-Store

Re-Store is the school’s student-run second-hand shop. Proceeds from sales of donated clothing goes to charity.

The UIV visit many of the sites mentioned in their Cambridge Latin Course, including Vesuvius, Pompeii, and Herculaneum.

The Physics Society brings in external speakers and senior girls lead fun activities, including building robots.

In this open forum during lunchtimes, girls can discuss problems, issues, and experiences with members of the VI.

All girls interested in netball have the opportunity to be on a team, play in fixtures, and develop their skills.

Girls in the V-VIII develop their political awareness and speaking skills as they prepare debates on key international issues.

Minimus Club

Girls in the V-VII form go to two local primary schools to teach basic Latin and bond with younger students.

The club meets weekly with a professional coach to practise techniques and to engage in friendly sparring sessions.

Improv Club

Girls are encouraged to let their imaginations run free; to respond instinctively and enjoy taking risks in the creative process.

The Flute Choir is open to all flautists in the LV and above who are of Grade 6+ standard.

This biology trip allows the girls to practise several important field techniques relevant to their GCSE syllabus.

Taking place every autumn, recent school plays include: Les Miserables, Women of Troy and Mnemonic.

DC Exchange

Girls in the V can participate in an exchange with National Cathedral School in Washington, DC over the Easter holidays.

In weekly meetings, girls enjoy a good argument, expand their horizons, and prepare for competitions. Spectators and speakers are welcome.

Dance Show

The entirely student run Dance Show occurs each year with various acts including modern dance, tap, and ballet.

Cross Country

The XC team practises at lunch and competes throughout the autumn and winter terms against various teams throughout the country.

Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance club allows girls to practise and compose contemporary dances. It is open for all age and skill levels.

Colet Play

The Colet Play is produced entirely by students in the VII, who cast, design, direct, and stage manage the performance.

Classics Society invites eminent speakers to the school two to three times per term .

Christmas Fair

The Great Hall is transformed into a festive market. Students can run their own stall after submitting a business plan.

Christmas Concert

The concert take places in the beautifully decorated and candlelit Great Hall. Traditional carols are performed by the symphony orchestra.

The Junior, Middle, and Senior Choirs are open without audition and perform at events such as the Christmas Carol Service.

The premiere orchestra plays at major concerts and events, and is open to musicians of Grade 7+ by invitation.

Paulinas in the V stay with a host family, see major landmarks, and spend time with their student exchanges.

Open only to girls in their final year, recent plays include The Permanent Way and The Love of the Nightingale.

Girls in the LV visit major memorials, cemeteries, and war sites, including Vimy Ridge, Tyne Cot, and Langemark.

The junior and senior basketball teams practice weekly and play fixtures against local schools to much success.

This ensemble is for string players of Grade 5-7 standard.  The group performs in Soirées and other school events.

The committee organises fundraising events including bake sales, dress-up days, and fun events to benefit two charities each year.
