LV Directors’ Forum

At the end of last year, the LV were given the opportunity to sign up for the Directors' Forum, to create and direct a short scene, choosing everything from the extract itself to the sound, light design, staging and set.

After finally agreeing on a scene and signing up, our groups were treated to a workshop where we learned how to think like a director. This called for thinking about tone of voice, dramatic moments and underlying emotions as well as how blocking and physicality can be used to intensify different moments throughout scenes. Armed with this information, we began rehearsing the scenes we had chosen, thinking about how we could stage our piece in an interesting way using sets, props and lighting.

As the performances drew closer, our directors talked to Miss Strong, Mr Wakerell and Miss Foley about the technical requirements for each performance. After finding brilliant costumes for the actors and taking part in multiple dress and tech rehearsals, the show was finally upon us!

Although we were nervous, all the groups did extremely well, and we are very proud of what we have achieved in such a short space of time. There was a fantastic range of scenes from A Doll’s House to The Addams Family. We are so grateful to be given this opportunity to try something new and are all sad that it is over. A massive thank you to everyone who helped out, especially to Miss Strong, Mr Wakerell and Miss Foley!
