St Paul’s was incredibly fortunate to welcome Andrew McMillan, senior lecturer at MMU and revered poet, into school for an inspiring poetry reading. Laura, VII, discusses his visit:
Andrew has published two collections of poetry, physical and playtime, which have each received an accolade of prizes, grappling with themes of masculinity, queerness and his experiences growing up. His poems were not only beautifully crafted in his bespoke minimalist style but also showed raw vulnerability, combined with a wit and charm that drew us all in. On top of sharing his work, Andrew also gifted us with many insightful pieces of advice on constructing poetry. By the end of the reading I know I was not the only one itching to seize a pen and begin crafting a poem myself.
