It has been brilliant to see a whole range of interesting talks and event continually virtually during remote learning. Ella, VII, discusses a recent online history conference:
Recently historians in the VII and VIII were invited to attend an online history conference hosted by Birkbeck University. We started the day by raising the question of why we study history and how we use primary sources before splitting off into groups for more specific talks. I attended a fascinating talk on ‘Riot, Revolution and the Crisis of the British Monarchy’, which encouraged us to think critically about methods of protest in Early Modern England – something that is even more relevant in light of recent events. We then examined some primary sources to evaluate the reasons why people were protesting and the opportunities that they had to express themselves in a pre-democratic country.
