On the Monday before the Christmas Holidays, the UIV Mandarin class had the opportunity to try their hand at Chinese calligraphy. Before we used the real calligraphy paper, we practised several times on different materials, using water to outline what we were going to write. We then practised our brush strokes before we eventually moved to the final piece. This was the most memorable part as we smelt the unpleasant ink for the first time. Overall, the experience was fascinating as we all realised how much effort has to go into the process.
