Last week saw this year’s Colet Play, William Golding’s iconic Lord of the Flies. Adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams, the play follows a group of school boys as a plane crash leaves them stranded alone on an island, their disastrous attempts to govern themselves result in turmoil and, eventually, murder. As usual, the play is organised and performed entirely by members of the VII. Susie commented that the use of the all-female cast ‘emphasised how the story is a universal tale of degeneration and breakdown of civilisation irrespective of gender’. Almost every member of the VII was involved in making the production, with teams including technical, publicity, set and props, and the hard work certainly paid off with audience members on the edges of their seats.
