Concerto Concert

April 30, 2017

On Wednesday 26 April, the Great Hall hosted the swansongs of four outgoing VIII music scholars (Rafaela, Helen, Sum-Ping, and Caroline) in the music department’s annual Concerto Concert. The scholars each gave solo performances with orchestra, offering pieces by composers as diverse as Haydn and Gershwin, and showcasing the culmination of their years of hard work and musical excellence at St Paul’s. In addition to the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, there were polished performances by Paulina Voices and the Nine-tingales, a close-harmony group of nine VIII singers formed especially for the concert. The evening ended with rousing renditions of ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘I Vow to Thee, My Country’, giving the audience the chance to join in after witnessing music-making of such a consistently high calibre.
