David Bodanis Visits St Paul’s

September 15, 2016

David Bodanis, writer and futurist, delivered a lecture on his new book, Einstein’s Greatest Mistake for the second Friday lecture of the term. Mr Bodanis argued that Einstein’s belief in his own infallibility was his eponymous flaw, especially after one of his theories was eventually proved to be correct, despite being deemed impossible by the scientific community at the time. Interestingly, he compared this to Blair’s criticised but successful involvement in Kosovo, and his subsequent hubris leading to the Iraq War. As well as providing some insight on the process of writing of his book, Mr Bodanis discussed the links between forming scientific theories and the general creative process, accompanied by lively diagrams produced on a flipchart at the front of the Singing Hall!
