Decolonised Reading Group

The most recent session of the Decolonised Reading Group ventured into the world of cinema, discussing the recently released Disney/Pixar movie Soul.
The Decolonised Reading Group has reconvened this half term for another thought-provoking group discussion. Ayesha, VII, tells us more:
In the most recent session of the Decolonised Reading Group we ventured into the world of cinema, discussing the recently released Disney/Pixar movie Soul. With Soul being only the fourth American animated feature film to have a black character as a lead, the discussion of the film brought up important topics surrounding race and representation in children’s films, particularly ideas surrounding the presentation of black culture in media. We considered how the influential nature of these mass-media conglomerates have a huge impact on the formation of young minds, which made for an incredibly informative, eye-opening session.
