At the beginning of the summer, a group of girls from the VII made the long journey to Wales to start their Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition. We were blessed with lovely weather and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the beautiful views of some of the highest peaks in Wales. Spending every minute of five days with the same group of people, walking, sleeping, walking, camping, eating (…. did I mention walking?) meant that all groups formed a really close bond. Highlights included one group walking around the same field for two hours unable to find their campsite, and another group celebrating one girl’s 17th birthday at six in the morning with a matchstick to blow out instead of a candle! Happily, all groups passed their expedition with flying colours. After all, when the going gets tough, the tough get going! Thank you to our instructors and Miss Harley-McKeown for being a constant source of optimism and encouragement, and to Mr Hennessy for organising the trip.
