Durham Schools’ Debating Competition

April 28, 2016

Seven teams made the long journey to Durham for the final ‘major’ tournament and hit the event like a tidal wave. Although we didn’t win, we arguably had our best tournament yet. Five teams qualified for the quarter finals, three for the semis and two for the final – all records for any school. Towards the end, Sonakshi Dua (VI) and Asisa Singh (VI) put out the unbeaten top seeds while Jackie Li and Josie Dallas (VIII) ousted the England captain. Freya Wilson and Bella Forristal (VII) spoke superbly in the grand final which also saw Jackie conclude her valedictory speech with an emotional tribute to Mr Askew. Back at King’s Cross we said fond farewells to Antonia Ruddle and Flora Spielman (VIII) who have been wonderful ambassadors for St Paul’s debating.
