Our assemblies are now streamed around the school into every form room, combining remote and real audiences. Raniya, UIV, tells us more about the first assembly of the year:

All Paulinas, new and old, had a welcoming start to this new and different year. The first few days of term gave us an insight as to how many new precautions were going to be put into place, kicking off with a live-streamed assembly to the whole school given by the High Mistress. When I say that I was ecstatic to see all of my friends at the beginning of school, I think that I speak for almost every student. This excitement was echoed by the High Mistress, who discussed how happy she was to talk once again in front of real people rather than a computer screen. Although many rules have been introduced, the High Mistress reassured us that we will adapt to this new atmosphere over time. She introduced the new staff members and commended all those in the school community who have worked so hard to get us back to school safely and help us settle in. From writing risk assessments to dealing with technological issues, all of the little details were taken into account. During lockdown, a spotlight was shone upon the importance of education – teaching online is for sure not the same experience as lessons face-to face. Although new measures have come into place and we are taking baby steps in this so-called ‘Covid-19 era’, this first assembly captured accurately how excited we are to be back together again.
