Many congratulations to Cia and Anya, who were both recognised in this year’s Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. Created in 1998, the Foyle Young Poets of the Year is one of the largest and most prestigious awards for young poets aged 11-17 writing original works in English. This year over 6,000 poets from 76 countries entered the competition. Anya was one of the 85 commended poets, while Cia was one of the 15 winners of the competition chosen by this year’s judges Jackie Kay and Raymond Antrobus. The top 15 poems will be published in a printed winners’ anthology from March 2020, while the 85 commended poems will appear in an online anthology. Both girls attended a prize-giving ceremony at the Southbank Centre in London where they were able to celebrate their success and meet other young poets. To be recognised in such a prestigious competition is an achievement which will open up exciting opportunities for both girls in the future.
