The H&F Youth Achievement Awards took place on Tuesday 4 May, live streamed from the St Paul’s Church in Hammersmith and opened by Stephen Cowan. As interludes between the awards, there were fascinating and inspiring performances ranging from a diverse dance group to an original song performed live in the church. There were three shortlisted nominees for the Green Champion Award, including Alexandra ( LV) and Tian (VII), the latter of whom ultimately won the award. Congratulations to the two for their hard work and contributions to SPEAC! It was great seeing all the grassroots work young people in our community have been doing – it gives great hope.

I was incredibly honoured to be nominated for the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham’s Youth Achievement Awards in three categories: COVID Champion, Young Leader and Young Volunteer. I was awarded the Young Volunteer of the Year for my work with rough sleepers during the national lockdowns and the initiation of a youth group within the charity for which I volunteer. It was fantastic to be recognised by my local community for a cause so close to my heart. At the ceremony, on Zoom of course, I was especially inspired by all the volunteer work young people around our borough have been involved in during the pandemic.
