History Talks and Events

June 22, 2020

In recent weeks the history department have hosted a range of talks and debates on topics related to diversity. Dr Anna Maguire from Queen’s University London discussed gender, race and imperialism in 20th Britain, while Courtenay, Sarah and Clemmie (VII) and Thamima (VIII) gave a thoughtful, informative overview of the history of racism in Britain. Students were also invited to attend a debate on the memorialisation of statues involving Matilda and Clemmie (VII), Thamima (VIII), Ms Hamilton, Ms Fenton and Mr Try, where they considered the purpose of statues and our response to them.
