Mr Donkor’s Debut Novel

January 19, 2018

We were delighted to see that Michael Donkor from the English Department was selected by the Observer New Review as one of six ‘most exciting debut novelists of 2018’. In recent years, the New Review has highlighted the work of the likes of Jessie Burton (The Miniturist) and Emma Healey (Elizabeth is Missing), amongst other authors who are now bestsellers and prizewinners. Mr Donkor’s first novel, Hold, is ‘an intimate, powerful coming-of-age novel’ split between Ghana and London. It’s a story of friendship and family, shame and forgiveness; of learning what we should cling to, and when we need to let go.
