Nicholas Denyer Visits St Paul’s

March 25, 2015

Classics Society was delighted to welcome Nicholas Denyer, Fellow and senior lecturer at Trinity College, Cambridge. Mr Denyer gave a brief yet fascinating insight into the world of Ancient Greek philosophy, raising questions such as ‘Why be just?’ and ‘Is there a need to be just if there is no fear of retribution?’, which the Greeks first asked more than 2000 years ago. Particularly striking is the pertinence of these questions today as we consider the present uncertain state of international affairs, which merely serves to highlight the continuing relevance of classics in the twenty-first century.
