Classics Trip to Euripides

March 9, 2015

A group of classicists recently attended the UCL performance of Euripides’ Bacchae. The production was skilfully acted all around, but the true highlight was the use of the chorus to intensify the drama, especially as it made such a contrast to conventional modern theatre, which normally lacks such a troupe commenting on the action. That being said, the ability of the play to still connect with a modern audience is a mark of the skill of Euripides and of the timelessness of the themes with which he worked.
