When Ms Garcia and Ms Mateos started planning Spanish Day this year, they never imagined that they would end up organising it remotely! However, they embraced the challenge and produced a brilliant virtual Spanish Day all about Mexican culture. The Spanish department created a page in the portal with a multitude of suggestions for Mexican-themed activities. Students were encouraged to watch films including Disney’s Coco, which focuses on the traditions around family and the Day of the Death, cook Mexican meals and listen to Mexican music. The page also featured a section on the painter Frida Kahlo, which included a virtual visit to her blue house in Mexico, now turned into a museum. UIV and LV students had great fun designing ‘lucha libre’ (a humorous wrestling style) masks and heroes – please see above! Thanks to all the students and teachers who participated.
