On Saturday 21 May, we welcomed 50 parents and alumnae donors at the Boat Club to launch a fleet of five new boats. We gathered at Tideway Scullers School in Chiswick to reveal the four Phoenix single sculling boats Sheldon, Alexandria, KP Redshift and Catalyst, in addition to a state-of-the-art Empacher 8+, christened Kallenike, a Classical Greek word translating as ‘fine in victory’. Guests enjoyed refreshments in the main club room at TSS before heading down to the outdoor grounds, where OP and international rower Michelle Vezie christened Sheldon, followed by parents and Ms Farr christening the other boats. Then the Empacher 8+ was rowed off in style by the senior crew, followed by two of the single sculls. We wish this year’s crews much success as they head to National Schools’ Regatta, with their new equipment giving a vital boost to their technique and stamina during those crucial sprint moments in regatta races. A heart-felt thanks to every family who donated to the rowing club to make this possible.
