Parfitt Day 2015

May 8, 2015

International pianist, Alexandra Dariescu, gave a masterclass and evening recital as part of this year’s Parfitt Day celebrations on 5 May, a day in which pianist and previous Head of Keyboard at St Paul’s Girls’ School, Elizabeth Parfitt, is celebrated and remembered. Dariescu has recently been named as ‘one of 30 pianists under 30 destined for a spectacular career’ in International Piano Magazine and is the youngest musician to receive the Custodian of the Romanian Crown medal. Performing Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite arranged for piano, Szymanowski’s Nine Preludes Op.1 and Chopin’s Scherzo No.2, Dariescu combined a warm stage manner with a commanding stage presence. It was a great testament to her skill and musicianship that her musical intention and creativity was sustained throughout given the extreme technical challenges of her programme.
