St Paul’s in Pompeii

April 6, 2016

The Easter holidays saw 42 UIVs embark on a journey to the bay of Naples where they saw some magnificent paintings and mosaics at the Villa Poppaea in Oplontis, and took a trip to Capri with its immense villa of the emperor Tiberius. Pompeii itself will be forever etched on the students’ minds, especially as many had never seen such a large and well-preserved ancient site. The realities of such a catastrophic event were really highlighted by the visit to the dormant volcano Solfatara. The unforgettable trip was incredibly varied and has certainly had a profound impact on the UIV’s study of Classics.
