Three teams comprising nine girls made their way to St Catherine’s School to participate in the semi-final of the National U19 Girls’ Chess Championships. Over 200 girls representing schools from across the South of England competed in a Swiss-pairing tournament over the course of an entire Sunday. The event was intense, with fierce competition on all sides. All girls did a fantastic job playing a mixture of creative and determined chess. We placed joint 3rd, 11th and 15th, which means that our A team now qualifies to the National Finals this Easter, where eight teams meet in an two-day all-play-all format. Congratulations to all participants!
