VI Geography Trip

October 15, 2019

VI geographers recently enjoyed an enjoyable and informative trip to Swanage Bay. Here, Georgi, VI, describes the group’s adventures:

Escaping the torrential rain of London, 42 VI geographers headed to Swanage Bay armed with ranging poles and measuring tapes where our skills were put to the test. We measured longshore drift and profiled the beach using clinometers, all whilst attempting to keep our equipment out of the sea. We followed this with a thorough investigation into how vegetation in Studland’s sand dunes changes as distance from the sea increases, and spent the evening consolidating and presenting our data. To wrap up the trip, we visited Boscombe where we spoke to the local residents to hear their opinions and to ascertain whether the regeneration that took place there has been successful.
