VIII Anglo-Irish Conference

March 29, 2016

On Friday 11 March we, once again, hosted our annual Anglo-Irish conference for the VIII. Full of the reverberations of Easter 1916 in this anniversary year and shortly before St Patrick’s Day, the girls settled down to two stimulating talks from Alvin Jackson, Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh. In both he sought to shed light on that troublesome relationship, the Anglo-Irish Union, explaining on the one hand why it failed, and also, conversely perhaps, explaining why it lasted as long as it did. This has set up the VIII historians extremely well as they enter the final sprint towards their exams in the summer.
