All parents automatically become members of our thriving Parents’ Guild when their daughter joins the school and soon find themselves welcomed into our warm, diverse and inclusive community.
The SPGS Parents’ Guild serves two purposes: to foster a strong sense of community within the school and to raise funds to enhance the lives of the students at the school. We aim to foster this community spirit through a variety of social and other activities for pupils, parents, families and staff throughout the school.
In addition to our regular Guild coffee mornings and evening drinks, our Arts Society Team arrange interesting cultural and artistic events on a not-for-profit basis. Our Lost Property Team helps reunite students with their possessions by running the daily lost property service and regular second-hand uniform sales. The Flower Team’s lovely floral displays make the school even more beautiful; you will notice these on the Marble and elsewhere when you visit the school. The Sports Club gives access to the school’s excellent pool to all SPGS families at nominal rates and our efficient network of year reps and teaching class reps organises social gatherings for parents and girls according to their academic year and teaching group.
The popular Christmas Fair, which is held every other year, is the Guild’s main fundraising event and is always much anticipated. Planning has already begun for next Christmas Fair, which will take place in November 2021.
We are also busy planning a variety of online events so that our community can continue to come together in case of any future social distancing restrictions.
We use the money we raise from our events to make regular contributions to the Bursary Fund, charities chosen by the students and to school projects that benefit the students in ways that fall outside departmental budgets, such as travel scholarships and author visits. We recently made donations towards the manufacturing of PPE by the Engineering Club and a hardship fund for parents.
