How to apply

Awards will be offered on entry to students who meet the School’s normal academic and residence requirements and whose parents have demonstrated their inability to afford a full fee-paying place. Students will normally have attended a maintained school but we may occasionally make exceptions depending on the situation. As a guide, the current total household income threshold is £110k (gross) but each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. We will consider equity in property, other assets, savings and other sources of income when assessing the application. Any mitigating circumstances in a household which may impact on a family’s ability to afford full fees will also be considered. Parents can contact the Business Directorate at anytime to discuss a possible application.

The procedures and important dates for entry into both year 7 and year 12 for September 2020 are outlined below.

Year 7

Step 1
If you wish to apply for a bursary for year 7, please indicate this on the examination entry form. The deadline for entry forms for September 2020 is 8 November 2019.
Step 2
You will then be asked to complete a preliminary bursary application form, which will take into account capital resources as well as income. The deadline for submission of the application form is January 2020. The form is available on the website and will also be sent to all parents in early December who indicate their intention to apply for a bursary.
Step 3
Bursary applications are considered once examinations and interview have taken place and you may receive a home visit by the Bursar and a senior member of our academic team to discuss the application in more detail. Home visits will take place in early February 2020.
Step 4
If your daughter is offered a place, you will be notified at the same time as to whether she will receive a bursary, and for what amount (provisional). You will be asked to complete an annual income assessment form in May 2020 to confirm the value of the bursary for the academic year 2020-21.

Year 12

Step 1
If you wish to apply for a bursary for year 12, please indicate this on the Year 12 Entry Form. The deadline for entry forms for September 2020 is 14 October 2019.
Step 2
You will then be asked to complete a preliminary bursary application form, which will take into account capital resources as well as income. The deadline for submission of the application form is 8 November 2019. The form is available on the website and will also be sent to all parents in mid-October who indicate their intention to apply for a bursary.
Step 3
Bursary applications are considered once examinations and interview have taken place and you may receive a home visit by the Bursar and a senior member of our academic team to discuss the application in more detail. Home visits will take place in late November/ early December.
Step 4
If your daughter is offered a place, you will be notified at the same time as to whether you will receive a bursary, and for what amount (provisional). You will be asked to complete an annual income assessment form in May 2020 to confirm the value of the bursary for the academic year 2020-21.

The value of the bursary is re-assessed every year based on an annual declaration of income and assets. Subject to there being no change in circumstances, the bursary will continue throughout the student’s time at the school. If we are unable to offer you a bursary, please be aware that a full fee-paying place is a commitment for the duration of the student’s time at the school.
