Learning Mentor to a year 7 student with a visual impairment

Required from September 2021.
Part-time, 25 hours per week

This position will offer an opportunity for working alongside a SENCO in a leading independent secondary school for girls.

The Learning Mentor role will involve creating and maintaining an open, reflective relationship with a pupil with a visual impairment in Year 7, their subject teachers, parents and external support professionals. The Learning Mentor will balance academic and pastoral support by guiding the pupil to overcome additional needs due to visual impairment which may impact on educational and personal achievement and to develop and implement strategies, which maximise learning outcomes.

Visual Impairment training will be provided.

Key accountabilities:

To collaborate with the Learning Support Coordinator to develop, implement and evaluate personalised action plans for pupil with a visual impairment based on a comprehensive assessment of their strengths, needs and strategies for overcoming any barriers to learning, accessing the curriculum or participating fully in the wider School community.

To research, plan and deliver 1:1 mentoring/support sessions with the pupil on a range of areas that may be impacting on individual learning. To pre-empt and provide discreet direct support to pupil in learning and living environments as necessary.
