Senior science students have been organising a host of interesting events for our new medical ethics club. Here Jasmine, VII, tells us more:
In recent weeks we have hosted talks from a range of eminent speakers, including author Steven Miles (pictured) and Megan Dean from the University of Michigan, who gave a talk on the philosophy and ethics surrounding eating. The talk focused on how dieting erodes one’s sense of self and is ultimately a harmful activity. It was fascinating to hear the ways in which we are influenced by both the media and our own preconceptions. Altogether Dr Dean delivered a very insightful presentation, proving a promising start to the series of medical ethics talks planned for this half term.
