LGBTQ+ History Month

We marked the start of LGBTQ+ History Month with an introductory assembly from the Spectrum committee on the topic of LGBTQ+ rights in the world today. This was the first of a number of events running throughout the month, including a talk from Sir Dermot Turing about his uncle Alan Turing, a lunchtime chat with lawyer Callum Lynch on being an ally and working for LGBT Human Rights and an evening exploring LGBT and faith with guest panelist Kate Harford. Our History of Art, Music and History departments are sharing resources for students to explore LGBTQ+ history and achievements in further detail, and many other subjects will be considering LGBTQ+ topics and ideas in their events, lessons and meetings throughout February; the recent Philosophy Conference contained a lecture on Buddhist attitudes to race and gender, the VIII are discussing LGBTQ+ immigration in PSHE and later this month Lit Soc will welcome Dr Anni Camilleri to speak about Byron and Sexuality. Discussion groups will also meet throughout the term; Senior Fem Soc are holding a discussion of Judith Butler, Spectrum will be participating in a group discussion with Eton and a session is planned to focus on the importance of identity and pronouns. In addition to these events, a number of resources are available on the Inclusion portal for students to learn more about the LGBTQ+ community and LGBTQ+ contributions to British history.
