Italian students’ visit to the Royal Opera House

Last month, those studying Italian in the VI and VII were lucky enough to go to the Royal Opera House to watch The Royal Ballet’s Dante project based on The Divine Comedy by the Italian poet, Dante Alighieri.

The ballet was co-produced with Paris Opera Ballet, choreographed by Wayne McGregor and the music composed-conducted by Thomas Adès. Through a combination of dance and music, Dante’s journey through, Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, as led by his guides Virgil and Beatrice, was shared with an engaged audience of over 2,000 people.

The set featured three changes to represent the three stages of Dante’s journey, with digital designs and lighting by Tacita Dean and Lucy Carter. We are so grateful to the teachers who accompanied us to watch the performance.
