On Tuesday 14 September, SPGS teamed up with the boys’ school to deliver a wonderful Joint Concert at Wathen Hall at SPS. This featured a SATB choir singing exceptional versions of Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with a small joint orchestra in the first half, conducted by Ms Pegler and Mr O’Hara. This was Paulina Voices and the orchestra’s first concert since lockdown in March 2020, so it was a brilliant experience. There were some amazing soloists from both schools in the second piece, especially Ceci (VIII) singing soprano. After a short interval the large orchestra treated us to Brahms’ first symphony conducted by Mr Wilderspin from the boys’ school, with an amazing performance in each of the four movements. It was great to see live music again with a full-scale orchestra. Overall, the concert went very well – congratulations to all those involved.
