History Society Talk

Undismayed in the face of lockdown restrictions, History Society this term has been more vibrant than ever, with a fascinating group of historians visiting virtually.

Clemmie, VIII, gives an overview of some of the interesting events the History Society Committee has organised this term:

Undismayed in the face of lockdown restrictions, History Society this term has been more vibrant than ever, with a fascinating group of historians visiting us virtually. Whether enlightening us on our study of the French Revolution, or introducing us to Maoist propaganda, the eras covered have been varied and exciting, while approaches ranged from the symbolism of Elizabethan portraiture to a gripping and intimate account of the relationship between Queen Victoria and Duleep Singh. The focus on decolonising the curriculum has included a compelling talk on slavery and the British Empire, and the History Society committee presenting on the Mali Empire. Throughout, the lectures have been as enjoyable as they are illuminating.
