Microsoft Imagine Cup Junior winners

Entries are submitted from all over the world so it is amazing that this team is one of the 10 world winners of 2023. They spent a year working on their app, in a timetabled slot of an hour and a half, which we call a Tech Elective.

In tech electives, Y12 students investigate any technology of their interest. So we’ve seen projects like a steam engine made from scrap metal; a pair of programmable puppet eyes; a theremin and developing other apps. But essentially it is giving students the support and freedom to explore. Interestingly, early years foundation settings are set up so very young children choose how they learn, moving inside, outside, from different toys and equipment to others as they feel inspired or engaged. You could say our tech electives are the same thing, just at senior level.
