I ran Act 2 on the theme of ‘Myths’ with the help of a team of six: we choreographed and performed in 11 dances alongside other dancers who were successful in the auditions we ran in the autumn term. There was a great variety of choreography, stories and moods and we couldn’t have hoped for a better audience! It was an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to make and perform in such a wonderful show as well as to strengthen the supportive community of dancers that we have at school.
In Act 1, it was wonderful to watch the many amazing dancers performing solos and group dances of their own choreography. Everyone clearly found so much joy in performing that it was an instant feel-good to watch! As always, the entire show was fantastic and it was so special to be able to continue the tradition of this mostly student-led show.

In my short time so far at SPGS the highlight has, no doubt, been the Dance Show. We’ve been up the dome at St Paul’s Cathedral, kayaking on the River Thames and learnt how to play Gamelan music, but nothing could compare to the Dance Show.
I was lucky enough to be picked for two auditioned dances and three non-selective dances (a solo, a duo and a dance with musical theatre club). Not only was the dancing fun, but the entire process of preparing for the show added to the experience. We are so fortunate to have access to such an amazing space to dance in and of course the incredible lighting and sound systems, which is something I have never been able to use before.
The older girls were so kind and patient when teaching us the dances and not only did I learn so much, but l also got to connect with other year groups and forge new friendships with people I never would have interacted with without the Dance Show.
Another aspect that astonished me about the Dance Show was the plethora of different cultures represented. We had everything from Kuchipudi to Highland dancing and hip hop to ballet. It just proves the fact that SPGS has such a diverse range of students who are all so talented in their unique area and the quality of the acts was that of a professional dance company. The talent of the older students is astounding and they were always happy to assist in any way we needed. Not to mention the phenomenal Ms Debney, Mr Wakerell and Ms Strong – we couldn’t have done it without them! I can’t wait to participate again next year!
