Trip to Cologne

Some of us went to Cologne over the summer holidays. We arrived at school to get on the coach at 4.15am, all looking very tired, and got to our hotel at about 5.15 in the afternoon (German time).

Over the next few days, we went to Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), then to a planetarium, a museum explaining about how Romans lived in Cologne, we all had ice cream, then went to a chocolate factory, went to Beethoven’s House, had a riverboat tour down the Rhine and went to a mathematics museum and (finally!) the Haribo shop in Bonn. We got so much Haribo that some of us only finished it this week! I also loved learning about space in the planetarium and the history of maths in the Arithmeum, and about Beethoven’s life and family in his house that had been turned into a museum. The riverboat tour and Cologne Cathedral were both amazing, especially the awe-inducing Gothic architecture of the cathedral, and the views down the Rhine, although it did start raining halfway through. I loved going to Cologne and learning about German culture, maths and science!
