Christmas Concert

December 16, 2015

The Great Hall was packed to the rafters on Monday for the final musical event of a very busy term. The night began with a bang with a tribute to Frank Sinatra in the year of his centenary by the Concert Band and the audience then witnessed the world premiere of ‘Hobson’s Choice’, a piece written especially for the orchestra by our own Composer-in-Residence, Bernard Hughes. Performances ranged from the more traditional ‘Winter’ by Vivaldi (part of our year-long Four Seasons Project) to the much more Disney-esque Christmas tune of ‘The Christmas Carol Fantasy’. No Christmas Concert could quite be complete without the famous Gardner carols, however, which really did bring ‘Joy to the World’ (well, to Brook Green at least) and allowed many visiting OPs to accompany current Paulinas with the famous dance sequence of ‘The Holly and the Ivy’.
