Last week VII students had the privilege of attending a Friday Lecture given by Amelia Gentleman. Lenka discusses the event:
An extremely distinguished Guardian journalist and OP, Amelia Gentleman has won numerous prestigious awards in British journalism. It was riveting to hear about her uncovering of the infamous Windrush scandal, where thanks to her work it emerged that hundreds of Commonwealth citizens had been wrongly detained, deported and denied legal rights. It was shocking to consider that if it were not for her tenacious reporting that the scandal may have gone unchecked. The lecture not only gave us an insight into the fascinating world of journalism but also highlighted its significance in giving a voice to those who have suffered great injustices.
