School Directed Course Drama Performances

On Thursday 4 December, as a part of our Drama SDC exam, we performed an exciting play called 'The Changing Room' by Chris Bush.

This piece featured stylised ensemble parts paired with various naturalistic vignettes, inspired by Katie Mitchell, that showcases the fears, insecurities and highlights of adolescence. The play is set in and around a public swimming pool and though wading through the inflatables that occupied the stage was by no means a small feat, the entire process has been incredibly rewarding and has really pushed us outside of our comfort zones, developing us as actors. The end-product speaks for itself and I’m incredibly proud of what we have been able to achieve, thanks to the support of our fantastic teachers!

The VI put on a production of Never Let Me Go as part of the Drama SDC, a play that explores love, memory, and morality within a quietly dystopian world. The opportunity to be part of the production and engaging with such complex themes proved both challenging and deeply rewarding. The play’s focus on fate, identity, and human value pushed us out of our comfort zones and encouraged thoughtful, nuanced performances. Rather than relying on spectacle, we focused on subtle moments and what was left unsaid. Through this process, we learned how restraint can powerfully communicate ideas that are emotionally and ethically complex.
