VIII English students studying T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land for their A level examinations were treated to a guided walk through the City of London early on Sunday morning, touring the various locations that Eliot refers to in this important modernist poem. Although the weather was a stark contrast to the ‘brown fog’ Eliot describes in the poem, students saw Eliot’s ‘unreal city’ in beautiful winter sunshine, visiting Eliot’s much beloved city churches, the site of his former office at Lloyd’s Bank, London Bridge, and other iconic locations explored in the text. The Waste Land has never been so uplifting!
