Congratulations to students who entered the advanced level UK Linguistics Olympiad in February. Students completed this paper on a voluntary basis. The problems they had to solve were about languages such as Mazateco (a tonal language from Mexico where speakers reproduce spoken conversations by whistling the successive tones of the words) or Tseltal (a Mayan language spoken in the Mexican state of Chiapas). Narthana (VI) and Sophia (VII) were awarded a silver certificate and Maddie (VI), Daisy (VII) and Calista (VIII) were awarded a bronze certificate. Congratulations to Olivia, Nadia and Chloe (all V) who achieved silver certificates in the regular UK Linguistics Olympiad.
