Chess Competition

On Sunday 9 October, 12 students made up of four teams, made their way to St Catherine's School in Bramley to compete in the semi-final of the National U19 Girls' Chess Championships.

Over 100 senior girls representing schools from across the South of England played five matches in a Swiss-pairs tournament over the course of the day.

The event was intense, with fierce competition on all sides. All the students did an amazing job, playing a mixture of careful, yet imaginatively attacking chess. We placed 2nd, 7th, 8th and 27th out of 36 schools. This now means that both our A and B teams qualify for the two-day National U19 Girls’ Final next April, where they will play tough rated games in an all-play-all format. Congratulations to all involved, what a fantastic result!
