On Wednesday 25 September to Tuesday 1 October, the MIV started the Sponsored Swim to raise money for the Bursary Fund, as well as the chosen charities (Shooting Star Children’s Hospice and Street Child). We had 20 minutes to swim as many laps as possible, some even swimming two laps per minute (roughly 40). Everyone was excited, and even the ones who could not swim (me included) grabbed a floaty and attempted swimming. We are so excited to see how much we raised. Maddy (MIVDP) said that it was “super tiring, and fun.” Although some found it hard, we enjoyed it.

The MIV Sponsored Swim is an annual SPGS tradition, with all of us MIV extremely excited. It began on Wednesday 25 October, and ended on Tuesday 1 October. The event was spread out throughout the week, and it took place in our swimming lessons. It is an event for charity, where MIV find sponsors to sponsor their swim. The donations are split equally, with half going to the school’s chosen charities and the other to the school’s Bursary Fund. On the day of the Sponsored Swim, my class eagerly awaited the start of our allocated swimming time. When the whistle blew, we raced and swam as fast as we could, giving it our best effort. The 20 minutes flew by, and when it was all over, my classmates and I were very exhausted and breathless. All of us were content with the number of lengths we had swum in the time. I even heard that some MIV swam 60 or more lengths, which is an impressive number, given the brief time! Overall, the MIV Sponsored Swim was a lovely opportunity, and everybody really enjoyed taking part in this tradition, especially as it supports a noble cause.
